Bentdahl, Ray age 74, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away peacefully on April 2nd from respiratory failure caused by pulmonary fibrosis. He was born September 19th, 1937 and raised on the family farm near Hanska, MN. Bentdahl graduated from New Ulm High School in 1955, Luther College in 1959, and was a recipient of the Luther College Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009. He began a 44 year career in commercial banking in 1963 at the Rushford State Bank in southern MN. At the age of 29, he acquired the Commercial State Bank of Hokah, MN. Through the 1970's and 1980's he went on to acquire a total of 12 bank locations in various southern Minnesota communities. In 1974, he developed a residential subdivision named Fox Chase Road near Hokah, MN. In 1977, the Bentdahl family moved to Edina, MN and in 1978 he acquired the Americana State Bank of Edina. In the 1980's and early 1990's he sold the southern MN bank locations to focus on growing Americana Bank in the Twin Cities. In 2002, the bank name was changed to Excel Bank. In 2007, Excel merged with Milwaukee-based M & I Bank. Bentdahl served as Chairman of several boards, including the Luther College Board of Regents, the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, and Excel Bank Corporation. He was a member of several organizations, including the Minnesota Bankers Association, Rotary Club, and the Minneapolis Club. He was a generous philanthropist and active fundraiser for many charitable causes. He was also an avid motorcycling and sports car enthusiast, and he spent many joyous hours behind the wheel at various racetracks driving a Porsche or Ferrari, or driving his Harley Davidson to the four corners of the USA (11,000 miles in 18 days). His greatest joy was spending time with his family and many, many friends. He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 53 years; children Ann (fiancé Roger) and Craig (wife Stephanie); grandchildren Kelsey, Kinsey, Kelly and Kate; nieces Kristi Nitz (husband Mike) and Mary Babel Tzucker (husband Bob); grandnieces Avery, Lyla, Carolyn and grandnephews Ryan, Noah, and Keane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar & Lyla Bentdahl, and younger sister Kathleen Babel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Luther College (700 College Drive, Decorah IA 52101), the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (920 E 28th St #100 Minneapolis, MN 55407) or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 10th at 4:00 pm at Normandale Lutheran Church (6100 Normandale Road) in Edina, followed by a reception at Interlachen Country Club.

It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Shirley Ann Bentdahl of Scottsdale, Arizona, who passed away at the age of 83, on August 21, 2020. She was predeceased by : her parents, Arthur E. Klingsheim and Amelia T. Klingsheim (Olson); and her siblings, Elenore and Kenny. She is survived by : her husband Ray Bentdahl; her children, Ann (Roger) and Craig; her grandchildren, Kelsey, Kinsey, Kelly and Kate; her step-grandsons, Tyler and Cory; her nieces, Kristi Nitz and Mary Babel; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Avery, Lyla, Carolyn, Ryan, Noah and Keane.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 28th from 5:30-8:30 p. m. at the Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel (5000 West 50th Street, Edina, MN.) Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks must be worn.

Bentdahl, Shirley Ann (Klingsheim) age 83, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully on August 21st surrounded by her loving family in her home in Edina, MN. She suffered a massive stroke on June 25, 2019. She not only survived the stroke, but she worked tirelessly for fourteen months to recover. A testament to the lifelong commitment she had to exercise and staying in excellent shape. She was born on April 28, 1937 and raised on her family farm near Harmony, MN. She graduated from Harmony High School in 1955 with honors as class Valedictorian. She graduated from Luther College in 1959, served one term on the Board of Regents, and was a recipient of the Luther College Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009. She had a love for learning and a love of teaching. She taught 7th and 8th grade English at LaCrescent High School for many years. She was a tutor and mentor to homeless children enrolled at the Pappas Kids Schoolhouse Foundation in Phoenix, AZ. She went on to create the Ray Bentdahl Scholarship Foundation to allow many of the Pappas students to attend college and graduate school. Her last student was just accepted to the Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law. Once she started something, she saw it through to the end. She also created a scholarship fund for students graduating from Harmony High School to attend Luther College. She was a generous philanthropist and active member of Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina, MN and the Pinnacle Peak Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, AZ. She was a long-time choir member in both church choirs and took great pride in hosting the annual choir party at her home in Scottsdale. When the family moved from southern MN to Edina she started a flower business, LesFleurs, and she was well known among interior designers as the "go to" flower designer in the Twin Cities. Her greatest joy was spending time with her devoted family and her many, many friends. She married the love of her life, Ray Bentdahl, when they were seniors attending Luther College in Decorah, IA. They spent 53 years together and raised a wonderful family. She is survived by her children Ann (husband Roger), Craig; grandchildren Kelsey, Kinsey, Kelly and Kate; step-grandsons Tyler and Cory; nieces Kristi Nitz and Mary Babel; grandnieces Avery, Lyla, Carolyn and grandnephews Ryan, Noah, and Keane.
