Myrtle Adrian
Myrtle Adrian, 89, of Somonauk, Illinois passed away, Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Valley West Community Hospital, surrounded by her family. She had been living at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion for the past two and a half years. Myrtle was born January 24, 1915 in Newark, IL to Martin and Ranghild Larson, and lived in the Leland and Somonauk area. She married Joseph Adrian on June 3, 1944.
Survivors include her four children, Mike (Sue) Adrian, Ann (Jim) Back, Jerry (Ginny) Adrian, all of Somonauk, and Bette (Winston) Reynolds of Pembroke Pines, FL; nine grandchildren, Matt, Jason, and Bobby Adrian, Jenny (Greg) Wasson, Susan Back, Benjamin Reynolds, Rachel (Gordon) Bucknor, and Laura and Alex Adrian; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Parker Wasson, and Zaiden Bucknor. She is also survived by her brother, Russell Larson of Sartell, MN.
She was preceded in death be her husband, Joe; her parents, Martin and Ranghild Larson; and her brothers, Arland and Laverne Larson
During World War II, Myrt worked at the "pants factory" in Sandwich. Myrt and Joe operated Adrian's Drainage in the late 1940's and early 1950's, then Adrian's Hardware through the late 1950's. Myrt worked for many years at CTS Knights in Sandwich. Her love of antiques led to her operating the "What is it Shoppe" in Somonauk in the 1970's. After her retirement, she continued her life-long interests which included gardening, visiting and caring for the elderly, and enjoying her antiques. She had a good knowledge of local history, and enjoyed passing it on.
Her parents immigrated from Norway in the early 1900's. Myrt and her brothers, all spoke fluent Norwegian, and she loved talking to all the Norwegians who would visit. A highlight of her life was when her daughter, Ann and she traveled to Norway to visit the birthplace of her parents.
Myrt was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where her funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Donald DeSalvo officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at Turner Funeral Home in Somonauk (815) 498-2363 on Wednesday, January 26, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a liturgical service at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Olmstead Museum in Somonauk.
