Hanna Wiersma was born January 26, 1928 the daughter of Anno and Sophie (Frey) Prins in Worthington, Minnesota. She was raised in Brewster, Minnesota for two years before her family moved to Sibley, Iowa. She attended Holman Township #5 from Kindergarten to 8th grade. On June 4 ,1949 Hanna was united in marriage to Bernard E. Wiersma at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley. After marriage she and Bernard lived with her brother Henry Prins, then moved to a farm near Allendorf, Iowa, before making their home in Sibley. In the past Hanna worked at Massas for 18 years, Tony and Marys Cocktail Lounge for 10 years, Weldons Production Line, Merry Lanes, 9-59 Club, and Country View Manor for 20 years. She was a member of St. Andrews Guild, V.F.W. Auxiliary since 1976 where she held positions as President, Sr. and Jr. Vice President, and Chaplin. She enjoyed cooking for others especially friends and relatives, enjoyed bowling, fishing, having coffee with friends, and short bus tours. One of her favorite memories was her 80th birthday celebration with all her children and their spouses present. Her family was very important to her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert (Paula) Wiersma of Sibley, IA, Lawrence (RuthAnn) Wiersma of Sibley, IA, Paul (Glee) Wiersma of George, IA, Patricia Hunter of Sibley, IA, Jim (Kathy) Wiersma of Sibley, IA, Mary (Ray) Barcelou of Moville, IA, Walter (Bonnie) Wiersma of Ashton, IA, Roger (Deborah) Wiersma of Pacific, MO, Mark (Lori) Wiersma of Sibley, IA, Barney (Gina) Wiersma of Readlyn, IA; daughter-in-law Helinda Wiersma; 32 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Judy Haren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Bernard Wiersma; her parents; son, David Wiersma; sisters, Grace (Kenneth) Schutte, Marie (Martin) Kruger, and Matilda (Alfred) Loetscher; brothers, Henry (Katherine) Prins and John Haren; grandchildren, Elijah Sanow, Mallory Barcelou, and Christopher Wiersma; stepfather John Haren; and son-in-law, Larry Hunter.
