June Marilynn Burns, 91, of Modesto, California passed away peacefully last Thursday with her two sons at her bedside. She was born to Elmer and Lillian Burkland of Aurora, Illinois.
She delighted her parents and grandparents with her singing, dancing, and entertaining performances. From that point on, she loved being on stage.
She moved to San Francisco after she finished High School, and worked in the city while she studied to be a concert pianist.
In 1944, she joined the US Navy WAVES, and served as a Yeoman 1st class. She met the love of her life, a handsome Marine Sgt Robert Bruce Burns, and they were married in 1951. While stationed in Naples, Italy, their son, Bobby was born. Their next assignment was Cherry Point Naval Air Station, North Carolina, where their son, Bruce was born. Bob and June were thrilled with their wonderful little family.
After her husband's sudden death in 1958, June moved back to San Francisco with her children to be with her mother and sister.
